Hiking & Mountaineering
The Lodge literally backs onto the Ecrins National Park which is one of the most spectacular areas in France for hikes, mountaineering and wildlife watching. A winding valley path runs right through our property and leads you to the stunning old Village of Venosc 4km up the valley or past beautiful waterfalls to the Market town of Le Bourg D’Oisans 8km in the other direction. A short hour and a half hike up from the Lodge takes you to the Lac de Lauvital, a beautiful glacial-fed lake populated by marmots, chamois, eagles and the more elusive Yucatan. For the more adventurous there are numerous day hikes or overnight treks into the Ecrins National Park, where you can stay in a number of stunning catered mountain refuges.
Sightseeing
Vénosc is our local village, 4km up the valley. It is a classic example of an old French mountain farming village where donkeys are still used for ploughing many of the fields. The village is clustered around a beautiful historic church with cobbled streets and quaint little restaurants selling local mountain inspired food. During the summer these streets seem to overflow with mountain flowers and on Tuesday mornings locals sell handmade crafts and home grown vegetables at the village market.
Les Deux Alpes is a seven minute gondola ride up from the village of Vénosc. Here you have a large number of shops, restaurants, museums, and stunning views over the Alpes from the glacier.
Water Sports
In the summer months the Veneon River, which runs past the chalet, swells dramatically with snow melt water and produces fantastic opportunities for rafting and kayaking.
Paragliding
From Les Deux Alpes it is possible to organise a tandem paragliding trip which will land you back in the village of Vénosc. This is one of the most popular paragliding sites in the area, thanks to the favourable and stable conditions in the valley
Summer Skiing/Snowboarding
Les Deux Alpes is home to the largest ski-able summer glacier in Europe. It features a high-speed gondola that takes you directly from the ski resort to the glacier with access to 10 different lifts as well as an underground funicular that services four blue, two green and two red runs. The glacier also features a snowpark and half-pipe that attract some of the best skiers and snowboarders from around the world.
Golf
A beautiful and relaxed nine-hole golf course is open throughout the summer months
